jdbutil certify summary

When you I jdbutil to certify a DB all I want to know is which files (if any) have problems, so I can rebuild them. However the successes and failures are all mixed together, so it's a pain to go through the log file and find which files had errors.

It would be nice if jdbutil could output a list of files with errors at the end of the certify.

A summary is a good idea, but the utility operation to rebuild files was removed in the 7.0.03 release.

We had customers coming to us with their problems after they had done rebuilds of corrupted files without first saving a copy of the corrupted system.

The file rebuild operation tried to scavenge things that looked like objects and subobjects from the file. It sounded great (rebuild) but the result sometimes wasn't. It should have been a last ditch effort to save some data, not the first thing thing to try.

It is our experience that analysis of the corruption more often than not leads to some manual fix-ups that facilitate better recovery of data. It also gives us the opportunity to evaluate the nature of the corruption, and possible causes, e.g., hardware, operating system, driver, or JADE itself, and to improve our in-house repair capabilities.

Customers should contact JADE Support for assistance when recovery of data from a corrupted system is necessary.
