License & copyright notices review for open-source projects
The copyright notices in the header files prohibit their disclosure, and the license file in the JADE docs folder states a copy of the software may only be obtained from an authorised server / media.
The conditions stated don't provide much flexibility for open-source projects, for which we'd ideally have the ability to add files needed to public projects somehow so they can be built/tested (which may be performed in the cloud), without the risk of legal ramifications.
While this is currently more relevant to the creation of external libraries, I believe this will also apply in future for JADE applications in general, when source control tools are available that'll enable us to use the likes of GitLab with their CI/CD functionality to execute a suite of JADE unit tests.
PAR #66037 has also been raised in relation to this, which discusses an approach that may avoid legal ramifications in the context of the current notices, but it's dependent on being able to automatically download and install JADE unattended (the objective of that PAR), and it may not be an option/work for all projects.
To cater for any open-source projects in general - Can the license & copyright notices please be reviewed to make provisions for JADE software being added to and used by open-source projects?
